Totally Jealous and Hopeful!!

Ok my totally amazing talented friend Rhonda has me green with envy sometimes as she shares her talent and I wish I could do half the things she can and half as well. So now she has gone and outdone herself again and to celebrate her 500th post she has made this AMAZING apron that I would love to have and she is giving it away.. oh yah the green eyed monster has reared it's head and I am going to do everything I can to win.

If you want to check out what has me all excited go check out her blog "Life as I see it" maybe some of my other talented friends might help me out by making one for me if I don't win since sewing is not one of the talents I really have had.. tried... but not there ;) She has posted a tutorial of how to make said apron that I am dieing to win :) Enjoy :)

I heart faces, Angles

So this weeks I heart Faces is Angles... I thought of my cute little Tommy and the picture I took of him singing to his growing sunflowers last spring. He had so much fun and it helped with learning how to say some of his words.

Love One Another

Just a special moment for the day :)

Friday, March 19, 2010

So it is constructive feedback day on I heart faces and I am excited. I took pictures at my daughters birthday party which was fun, but even though I was sure I had everything set right the pictures just didn't turn out the way I wanted. This is one I took of Claudia and her best friend Annie that is my favorite. I did edit it up ok which I have posted under neath, but I would love some tips on what I could of improved for the mixed light setting and maybe different editing ideas. Thank-you :)

How to make the Princess Scarf

So a few posts back I mentioned how I had made scarves and tutu's for Claudia's Princess Tea Party to give to the guests instead of goody bags. I also mentioned how easy and cheap they are to make. Now the funny thing is the stuff I made sell in the stores for $20 and I made them for less than $1! They are called torn fabric scarves at the art shop and I did do a change up in how to make them so that they are more kid friendly. And the best part they only take minutes to make with no sewing (as that is not one of my talents.. but I may try it again some day)

Anyways you start by heading to your local dollar store and picking out of this cool, funky wool. Pick out a few colors and varieties to make it fun.

Measure the length you need by taking yourself, or the little one you are doing it for and stretch out from one hand to the other. It may seem long but when your done it will be the perfect length.

Cut yourself a minimum of 4 strands and up to 8 of each of the colors you want to end up with 20-24 strands of different colors and textures to work with.

now mix them all up a little bit before you gather the strands into one big group.

Now this is where I vary from the "Pro" made scarves and my kid friendly ones, they took one of the colors of wool and would cut a small piece that you wrap around and tie everything together with.. hazard, the strand can be pulled out! So instead find the middle point and tie a knot. It has the exact same look and is a lot more safe for the little ones.

Go about a 1/3 of the way down on both sides and tie 2 more knots. This helps it be a little more secure as well as helping the scarf to keep it's shape and not get as tangled during storage.

That's it! Find your little princess and let her play. Claudia loves her so much that I couldn't even get her to look at the camera.

I ♥ Faces - Bundled Up

So I have been following this group I ♥ Faces and love what they do and that anyone can join up and participate. Well this is the first week where I found out what the challenge is before the tuesday due date. The Challenge is "Bundled Up" which works well with the pictures I took for our family Christmas card. Ok it was just my kids this year instead of the family but we had fun :) So this is the picture I ended up using for our Christmas card because it has all 6 kids playing and having fun in the snow. Please Enjoy!

Spring days, Making flour and bread, and good friends :)

So it has been a while since my last post... just over a week I think. Life has been crazy busy especially with the kids on spring break and having the flu run it's way through our home, YUCK!! We didn't end up with all six going but close. Thanks goodness it was only a 24-48 hour bug.

So after all that fun I introduced the kids to the joy of grinding wheat into flour and making bread with it. Oh how they loved the feel of the wheat and then how cool was it when it went into the grinder and come out flour!! oh yah that was the neatest thing they have ever seen. Making the bread was fun but eating it fresh was the best. So my kids now have a new appreciation for whole wheat bread and keep asking when we are going to make more... I think that might be why they have been eating it faster than normal ;)

Of course while the bread was baking we ventured outside into the nice new spring weather and did some yard work... yep I took my Christmas lights down finally. It was a sad moment but one that needed to be done to get ready for the next season. But hey it was warm enough that Josh could wear shorts outside. Oh the joys of being able to have the kids play outside again! The house will soon be free for a cleaning over haul and maybe we can get the organization in the house really done. In 2 weeks we will be having a garage sale and that should help clear sooo much junk out of the way. that will be like a hundred pounds lifted off my shoulders.

I would also love to give a special Thanks to my friend Jennifer for being a great friend. She has been there lately when I have been feeling over whelmed and it has been nice have someone just be there. It has been a long time to have that close by. Still miss all my friends out in Alberta and the rest of the world but it feels great to have someone close by again that is there to do things with and help me feel like I am not just a mom, but a person too. She is a special soul and I am so glad we became friends.

The Tender Mercies

So I have been talking to a lot of friends this past couple of weeks you have been asking me and telling me how amazed they are that I can make it through some of the trials I have had and still smile (most of the time) on life. Well this morning I noticed a new post from Mormon Messages that just said it all for me so I am going to share it here as well so 1. I always have a copy of the link and 2, other people will understand what I sometimes lack the right words to express. After this I am going to quietly cry tears of joy as I start a deep clean on my home after a week of flu bug kids. Have a good day everyone.
